This is a joint release by the Australian Border Force and Australian Federal Police
A German couple who allegedly attempted to import approximately four kilograms of cocaine in their luggage at Sydney International Airport will face court today (16 April).
After arriving on a flight from Dusseldorf, Germany – via Abu Dhabi – yesterday (15 April), a 37-year-old German man and a 49-year-old German woman were selected for a baggage examination by Australian Border Force (ABF) officers.
During the examination they identified anomalies within the lining of the suitcases, and further examination revealed a substance which returned a positive result for cocaine.
Each suitcase contained approximately two kilograms of the substance, however further forensic testing is required to determine the exact weight, purity and value of the cocaine seized.
The German nationals were referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and charged with importing a commercial quantity of border controlled drugs, contrary to section 307.1 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).
They are due to appear in Parramatta Local Court via video link today.
